What Happened – The Outsiders Chapter 4
Ponyboy and Johnny go to the park after running away. It is very late, and the park is quiet. While they are there, a blue Mustang pulls up. Bob, Randy, and three other Socs get out of the car. They are drunk and looking for trouble. The Socs confront Ponyboy and Johnny for spending time with Cherry and Marcia.
A fight breaks out. The Socs grab Ponyboy and hold him down. Bob pushes Ponyboy’s face into a fountain, trying to drown him. Johnny, terrified but desperate, pulls out a switchblade. He stabs Bob to protect Ponyboy. Bob is killed, and the other Socs run away.
Ponyboy and Johnny are shocked by what happened. They know the police will come after them. Scared and unsure of what to do, they go to Dally for help. They find him at a party and explain everything. Dally gives them money, a loaded gun, and instructions. He tells them to hide in an abandoned church in Windrixville and wait until things calm down.
