What Happened – Where The Red Fern Grows Chapter 12
In Chapter 12 of Where the Red Fern Grows, Billy goes hunting with his dogs, Old Dan and Little Ann. They head out to the river bottoms, where raccoons are often found. The night is cold, and the moon is shining brightly. Billy is excited and hopeful about the hunt.
The dogs catch a scent and begin to track a raccoon. They chase it through the woods and eventually tree it. Billy follows them and finds the raccoon up in a big sycamore tree. He decides to chop the tree down to catch the raccoon.
Billy starts chopping the tree with his ax. It is a tough job because the tree is large. He takes breaks to rest but keeps working hard. His hands become blistered, but he does not give up. During one of his breaks, Billy says a prayer, asking for help to bring the tree down.
