What Happened – A Separate Peace Chapter 6
In Chapter 6 of A Separate Peace, the summer session at Devon School ends. The regular fall session begins. Gene returns to the school after a break. He moves into a new dorm room. His new room overlooks the Naguamsett River. This river is different from the clean Devon River.
Gene’s friend, Phineas (Finny), is not there. Finny is still recovering from an accident. Gene reflects on the accident and feels bad. He visits Finny’s empty room and remembers their friendship.
Gene starts his new duties as an assistant senior crew manager. The crew manager is a student named Quackenbush. Quackenbush and Gene do not get along. Quackenbush insults Gene, calling him maimed.
